Deaf Community

Leeds DEAForum provides an opportunity for Deaf and hard of hearing people to meet and discuss key issues which affect them in the community. Discussions through British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters cover how services are provided and made accessible by organisations like the council, health services, and the police.

The forum advises on Deaf equality issues, with the aim of improving service provision for the Deaf community of Leeds.

Our DEAForum works in partnership with Leeds City Council, NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, West Yorkshire Police and other services, raising general issues of concern and making suggestions for improvement.

The Leeds Deaforum meets every month at the Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People. The DEAForum aims to:

  • Make sure deaf people’s views and concerns are met by Leeds City Council Adult Social Care and other services.
  • Train deaf people and providers to work together more effectively.

To do this, we invite the people who provide services to work in partnership to develop services for deaf people.
