Leeds Deaf Action Forum (DEAForum)

The Leeds DEAForum (Deaf Action Forum) provides a vital platform for Deaf and hard of hearing people in Leeds to come together, share their views, and influence the services that impact their lives.

Meeting monthly at the Unity Business Centre, the Forum offers a safe and inclusive space where Deaf people can raise key issues, ask questions, and engage in meaningful dialogue with service providers. All meetings are supported by British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, ensuring that communication is fully accessible for all participants.

The DEAForum focuses on a wide range of topics that affect the Deaf community, including:

-Access to health and social care

-Adult safeguarding

-Emergency services and policing

-Education, employment, and community life

-Equality, inclusion, and accessible communication

The Forum works in partnership with Leeds City Council, the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, West Yorkshire Police, and other local organisations to raise concerns, share lived experience, and make practical suggestions for service improvements.

Our aims are to:

-Ensure that Deaf people’s voices are heard in decision-making spaces

-Improve access to services through clear communication and inclusive policies

-Support training and awareness for both Deaf people and service providers

-Encourage ongoing partnership between the Deaf community and public services

Members of Leeds DEAForum play an active role in shaping a more inclusive city. By sharing real experiences, raising concerns, and working in partnership with local agencies, the Forum helps create lasting improvements for Deaf people in Leeds.

All Deaf and hard of hearing individuals are welcome to attend. Whether you use BSL, lip-read, or communicate in other ways, your voice matters here.
